  so i went to the bar again tonight for my 4th appearance at the open mic comedy event.

  my last three sets went fine, got plenty of laughs, and i felt good about them.

  tonight i thought some folks from work were going to be there so i was using old material that had worked previously.

  Will we see the GB replace 1914 with a new date in the next 30 years?

  ray franz mentioned in crisis of conscience that in 1980 schroeder, klein, and suiter proposed changing the start of "this generation" from 1914 to 1957. as the "this generation" doctrine has since mysteriously morphed any date associated with it is moot.

  however, as time marches on without the developments anticipated by the gb may they again pick a new year, this time for the invisible enthronement of christ, in an attempt to buy time and regain credibility?

  what dates or historical events would be likely choices?

  I only make that statement, because for many years I served as wt & bookstudy conductor.
  During this time, very, very, very few could understand the significance of wt doctrines and even fewer were willing to give it serious thought.
  
  Age has little to do with it.
  Many are afraid to allow even the thoughts to develop because of the snowball effect that it may have on their lives.
  
  I could go on & on about this, but many have done a much better job on this site already.

  Honestly, there are so few jws around who even have a clue about the importance of those dates.
  They could change it to almost anything and the vast majority would stay around to show loyalty at any cost.
  The relatively few who give up will simply be dismissed as bitter apostates, seeking their own selfish desires.
  
  No matter how weak the doctrinal argument or strong & clear the evidence, if a jw ain't ready to leave - they simply ain't goin' nowhere!

  would you come back the organization if all disfellowshipping/other punitive actions were completely reversed?

  if you came back would it be for association with friends and family only?

  what policy and behavioral changes would the society need to make to "entice" you back?.

  Nowadays, (partly thanks to the internet)
  there are good support groups for ex jws.
  
  Few feel the same loneliness than formerly was common.
  
  I also find that those who leave can be more resolved in their decision,
  since research materials are readily available to confirm the truth of WTS.
  
  That being said, fewer seem to feel the 'need' to return.

  The Sunday Thread!

  i just spent a helluva a long morning in bed even though i was awake early, then did some yoga before breakfast and a piping hot shower.

  now i feel like i still have a whole fabulous day to enjoy doing exactly what i want.. in my other life i used to dread sundays.

  i would read my book to take my mind off the imminent boredom right up until we got to the hall doors and then 2 hours of monotony would follow - the sickening nerves of making myself answer up, often choking mid sentence because i was so nervous, but worse was to come.

  This is a cool topic.
  
  Before I faded, I had been one of the 'responsible ones'.
  I conducted the WT lessons for a while &
  was a regular reader since everyone else had the sense to avoid it.
  
  Looking back it is simply amazing to see how no matter what you did,
  each meeting was designed to make you feel guilty for not doing more.
  
  Once I visited a church with a friend.
  They did not have to dress up in 'meeting clothes',
  did not have to prepare their 'lessons',
  did not carry a sh*tload of books to each meeting,
  did not get coerced into post meeting 'field service',
  did not have to report their monthly activity,
  on, and on, and on.
  
  No wonder my entire week was so stressed out.
  I never got any downtime to focus on myself.

  came across this on wikipedia, seems someone didn't waste any time.

  beginning in 2008, the watchtower will have different focuses in the two issues that are published each month.

  the issue published on the first of each month will focus on religious articles that will be offered to the general public.

  The Watchtower has gone from an End Times Speculation publisher to an insular cultic conclave. The sealing in of certain meetings will allow better security against prying eyes of "apostates" who monitor the activities and publicize them on the Internet.
  
  How can they have security, when so much of the 'apostate' information comes directly from the 'insiders'? Many of us on this site are elders, pioneers, ministerial servants, bethelites, etc.

  From what I remember of the Service Department, the rather long delay allowed them to check the lists of elders in MASS. Since your name did not show up, they took the safest route.
